Welcome to day #19 of the Intentionally Equitable Hospitality (IEH) series for May 2024! We hope you are having an awesome and relaxing Sunday (and great start of your week for some)!
Daily Facilitation Tip: Start with access, not assumptions
Today’s video is by Dani Dilkes, where she talks about the importance of not making assumptions about your audience so you can create an environment that is equitable for everyone. She says, “equitable facilitation starts with equitable access, which includes access to knowledge, information and the access to the ability to participate.” Her first tip is to try to describe key visuals to make information in them accessible to everyone, which she starts doing herself in this video. She also talks about the “Quiet Room.” Watch/listen to learn more about it and hear the rest of her equitable facilitation tips!
Daily Activity: In-visible Participation Reflection
It is really hard to accept that “not all participation needs to be visible”. What are your ways to include participation that is not “visible?” As always, please make sure to post your reflections on the SPLOT so we can all see and engage with them as well.
