Yasmin Ismail

Co-facilitator, Guest Facilitator or Speaker

Dr Yasmin Ismail is a researcher at Cambridge University’s HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre of Islamic Studies with a background in Islamic studies and anthropology. Her current project, Digital Madrasas: An Islamic Ethical Approach to AI Literacy in UK Muslim Communities, explores how communities historically positioned at the margins of technological development become critical shapers of futures being built around them. Complementing this is an interest in alternative knowledge-making sites, challenging how knowledge about Islam and Muslims is produced and taught, shifting attention towards models rooted in imagination, agency, and co-creation. She has participated in cross-disciplinary workshops showcasing how Muslim intellectual traditions contribute to global debates on digital futures. In community madrasas, she is developing co-design workshops building critical AI literacy curricula, while in Islamic schools, she leads teacher workshops on Critical AI Literacy, helping educators develop pedagogies that are both technically informed and ethically grounded.
