
Shyam Sharma
Dr. Shyam Sharma is Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at Stony Brook University (State University of New York, SUNY). His scholarship and teaching focus on writing in the disciplines, cross-cultural rhetoric, international education, new media, and language policy. A recipient of Nepal Government’s Bidya Bhusan (2000), Association of American Universities and Colleges’ K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award (2012), SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service (2021), and the Fulbright Specialist fellowship (2023-26), Dr. Sharma contributes to faculty development internationally, including to address emerging challenges of ethical conundrums and knowledge-based global inequalities that are exacerbated by the emerging model of artificial intelligence. He has co-edited two books on AI and higher education, as well as publishing several articles and chapters, and he leads workshops for faculty and students on research, writing, and publication in the US and abroad.
