Irene Maweu

Irene Maweu is an experienced online and face-to-face facilitator who has worked in the field since 2008 and with the e/merge Africa Network (a project at CILT, University of Cape Town) since 2016. She designs and facilitates online courses, workshops, meetings, and training programs. She contributed to community-building initiatives such as Equity Unbound and co-led creative sessions. Irene is also a core event designer for the annual MYFest event, which promotes Intentional Equitable Hospitality (IEH).

She has consulted widely across Africa with development partners like GIZ in various programmes, Oxfam International, and the African Union. Her work includes designing and facilitating digital skills courses for Afripol, gender and migration courses, and financial inclusion programs. Irene has also led and supported transformative leadership programs, notably the Women Land Rights pilot and multiple strategic facilitation initiatives in the areas of education, health, agriculture, and youth mentorship.

Irene is the founder of The Heart of African Facilitation and actively mentors facilitators across the globe. She is a member of several professional networks, including the International Association of Facilitators (IAF), e/merge Africa, and the Global Conscious Peacemakers. She also engages with the private, public, and academic sectors and continues to champion inclusive, impactful facilitation throughout the African continent and the world.
