Anna Mills
I have taught writing at public two-year colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area for 18 years and currently teach at College of Marin. My OER textbook, How Arguments Work: A Guide to Writing and Analyzing Texts in College, has been used at over 65 colleges. I serve as the English Discipline Lead for the California community colleges OER Initiative, and my collection AI Text Generators and Teaching Writing: Starting Points for Inquiry is featured in the Writing Across the Curriculum Clearinghouse. As a consultant for OpenAI, I tested GPT-4 before its release. Currently, I serve as volunteer advisor on the teacher-created app MyEssayFeedback.ai and as faculty for the AAC&U Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. As a member of the MLA/CCCC Task Force on Writing and AI, I helped launch Exploring AI Pedagogy: A Community Collection of Teaching Reflections.
Why I’m in MyFest: I think about the ethos of MyFest all year as I prepare faculty workshops around AI, and I look forward to renewing my inspiration and energies this summer as part of this wonderful community!
MyFest involvement: I’ll be leading two interactive workshops on AI: AI for Writing Feedback: Supporting a Human-Centered Writing Process and Building AI Literacy and Skeptical Approaches to AI Research Tools
