Explore the intriguing intersection of teaching and performance art in this engaging workshop. We’ll start by delving into the idea that teaching is inherently a performance, where various personas are always at play. Drawing on identity theory and research into teacher identity, we’ll challenge the notion of a “neutral” identity and consider how unconscious biases can unintentionally harm students.
In light of the current AI landscape, the prevailing narrative often casts teachers as “cops” and students as “criminals.” We’ll push back against this dominant social positioning, which centers discussions around cheating and surveillance. Instead, we’ll explore alternative, more productive personas for educators. Through interactive and collaborative role-plays that will highlight other possible personas, you will come away with more options to align your desired persona to particular pedagogical considerations (AI, lesson plans, diverse student needs, etc).
