Do you feel truly seen and valued in your work, and are you helping others feel that way too? Join us for a six-session book circle exploring “Mattering: The Secret to a Life of Deep Connection and Purpose” by Jennifer Breheny Wallace hosted by Theresa Destrebecq.
What does it mean to truly feel valued, and to help others feel that way too? In this six-session book circle, we’ll explore Jennifer Breheny Wallace’s book “Mattering” to help us understand why feeling valued and adding value are fundamental human needs, and what happens when that need goes unmet.
The book is built around what Wallace calls the “Mattering Core” — five interconnected elements:
1) Recognition (feeling that you and your actions are valued, and that your absence would be felt):
2) Reliance (feeling needed because others depend on you);
3) Importance (feeling significant because you are prioritized):
4) Ego Extension (feeling cared for because others are invested in your well-being); and 5) Attunement (feeling deeply understood and meaningfully responded to).
We’ll structure our reading and exploration in the following way:
>> June 11th (Kick Off – No Reading)
>> June 18th (Intro and Ch 1 and 2)
>> June 25th (Ch 3 and 4)
>> BREAK
>> July 9th (Ch 5 and 6)
>> July 26th (Ch 7, 8 and Epilogue)
>> July 23rd (Close and Pull the Thread)
This is a cohort model, so please only enroll if you can attend the majority of the sessions. Drop-in won’t be possible.
