This session explores the value of educators being more actively and meaningfully involved in students’ learning, enabling them to evaluate that learning regardless of whether students use generative AI tools. Rather than focusing on surveillance, invigilation, or AI detection, we will consider an alternative approach grounded in pedagogical insight and trust. Together with participants, we will examine how to clarify the kinds of learning we want to prioritise, and how assessment tasks and conditions can be designed to make that learning more visible, authentic, and assessable. Through discussion and shared examples, we will reframe the challenge of GenAI, not as a threat to academic integrity, but as an invitation to reimagine what and how we assess.
