In this session, we will share how engaging with craft and material practice has helped us build community and engage in identity- and meaning-making. We will share both personal experience and craft pedagogy theory as framing tools for thinking through crafting practices in educational spaces. This session will be highly interactive with optional opportunities for participants to share their own craft stories, practices, hobbies, and reflections. Participants will be invited to craft during the session by either working on their own projects and/or participating in a collaborative digital crafting project that embodies the theory and practices being discussed. We define craft in this space as any project that involves making physical, material, or digital artefacts. We approach this work with the belief that everyone is a crafter and that crafting is a liberatory practice.
