Is it possible that we’re not totally perfect and that’s…okay?
When I was a student I was afraid of asking instructors for help, afraid that they would think me a failure, and now, well, let’s just say this blurb was very late because I was afraid it wouldn’t be ‘perfect’.
We are told that learning comes from making mistakes, we may have preached it. But the systems where we teach and learn punish mistakes: students lose marks, teachers lose professional opportunities and more.
In this highly interactive brave space, we will share some failures (publicly or anonymously), and our feelings around failure. Then we’ll try to uncover their fruitful possibilities: clarifying what we mean by success, feeling stronger in community, and, perhaps, more fully understanding how many of our seeming failures are systemic problems in disguise.
